When everything in a company is run by projects, the projects become the operation.
the PMO is moving gold stars ahead on a board. They are not really looking at anything else and that becomes primordial
All they care about is moving Gold stars.
The rest becomes irrelevant.

If you are a project manager, and you constantly feel that you are completely responsible for the failings of an organization, This book is for you.

1. companies started using projects to deliver new things as new things became "the thing" to deliver
2. project management became a profession, project managers were trained
3. However, companies did not train all employees on what project management is (other than let's say, fortune 500 companies who invested in processes and understood the value of the entire organization understanding the roles and responsibilities of other professions)
4. so the companies whose employees all understood project management, thrived
5. as more and more companies used project structures to deliver things, the Project became more important than operations
6. Operations took a back seat : And perhaps rightly so, as IT and technology became "the lights" and not "the product"
(who cares about the firing sequence of the pistons in your car)
7. As operations took a back seat, management as a line function, began to wane as a priority in companies
8. Project Management became "the way" to manage,  as Management went the "way" of the dodo
9. Since companies focus primarily on projects to face competition, processes and other operational tour de forces get overlooked
10. Processes became inefficient, not valued, and as more and more people got pulled on projects, there was less and less time to work on .... ANYTHING.
11. The project managers who were willing to compensate for these things got selected,  as they were more successful at delivering projects
12. Project Management has now become operationalized - whoever can get shit done in the face of organizational chaos, wins.

Agile methodology is essentially, operations.

Roger says agilewill neverwork cause of the amount of timeyou spend in meetings

they created product managers and project managers

  • so my father used to do simple tasks. which needed to be done but were very linear
  • over the years - think about what happened. - how things went from him doing one simple thing to
  • over the years, we've added more and more people to the project
  • scrum master makes them feel good about themselves and that's why people like it
  •  methods: self criticism in communism
  • scrum is pleasantville
  • they are hiding behind it and doing jack shit
  • scrum is the best thing that ever happenedt o them cause they can hide behind it
  • scrum works when you have a well defined problem and you can cut it into small building blocks and you have brain dead developers
  • as soon as you have thinking people and non well defined problems it doesnt. works
  • his company is proving how bad agile is
  • roger does 2 times a week standup
  • there's still no business plan for how to sell AI
  • agile is not for innovation
  • why does it need to be agile

retrospective at the end of the project:

Do you think i could single-handedly turn project management around
Would i have to understand neoliberalism to do so
Lynn says this is an opportunity
to fix what has become of project management

here is what happened:

interject neoliberalism and populism

and can i also interject donald hoffman's  views on evolution and gametheory
won't people always lean.  towards fitness? what would make them more fit?
